About us
The Council Districts Task Force
The Council Districts Task Force is a grass roots organization of
Brookhaven residents united to fight for responsive, representative
town government. Our members come from all of the political parties,
but have one common goal - good government for Brookhaven. We encourage
all Brookhaven residents to join the fight for accountable government
and join our effort.
Background
The recent Council District initiative was started by ABCO,
the Affiliated Brookhaven Civic Organization, in 1996. ABCO
was formed 30 years ago and is an umbrella group of Civic Associations
in the Town of Brookhaven.
All the officers of ABCO hold numerous awards of recognition
for their efforts to make their respective communities better.
ABCO has had a long history of working constructively with earlier
Brookhaven administrations to help make government work. The Council
District initiative was announced at ABCO's 25th anniversary dinner
with almost all past and present Town, County and State elected officials
present.
ABCO was quickly joined by other groups such as the League of Women Voters.
The League is an old voting rights for women group that is presently
very active in good government issues, especially campaign finance reform.
The Council District issue is an excellent issue to help get big money out
of politics.
We were also joined by the Neighborhood Network and other groups
interested in responsive government.
